Diver Down - A Tribute to Joel Tubbs

I am very sad to report that Joel Tubbs, 41, died Sunday, June 8th, while diving in Blue Springs, Florida.  Joel was a very close friend of Jackie Smith, who also died while diving a couple of years ago.  Joel was a very experienced, careful diver.  A heart attack is suspected.  My heart goes out to his wife, Christy, and to all his friends he left behind.  The diving community has suffered a great loss.

On the long ride home, I began telling my instructor and another divemaster candidate about this hardcore cave diver named, Joel Tubbs and what a fun guy he was to be around. Today, I search for Joel on facebook and uncertain of his location and what he would look like 12 years later, I decided to cross reference his name in hopes to reconnect with a great man who helped shape me into the diver I am today. I'm deeply saddened by his passing & I wish his family the best.
