I will be placing an order for more books by the middle of November.  In the meantime, if you are in the Jocassee area, you can purchase a book at Devil's Fork State Park gift shop. . . or you may order directly through www.Trafford.com Just search for "Whippoorwill Farewell:  Jocassee Remembered." You can also order through Amazon.com. It is more expensive to buy through Trafford, and Amazon, however.  Sorry for the inconvenience!  I hope to have books in time for Christmas shopping.  Thanks!

      Deb,
Just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed your book, and how much I appreciate you sharing your memories of the way Jocassee once was! I still remember the first time I saw the lake, back in August of 2004. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to go camping, and even though we live near Charleston, we both love the mountains. Somehow, Jocassee called to us, and we decided to take a day trip up to check out the State Park. I thought it was just about the most beautiful place I'd ever seen, but was still overwhelmed by a haunting sadness over what was lost to create that beautiful lake. We ended up spending the night (the park ranger told us he had a cancellation in one of the villas, and we happily accepted!). I remember sitting on the rocks, looking at that beautiful sunset, but still thinking of all that lay beneath the surface of those waters. I could imagine the grief that I would have felt if it were MY home down there. We have made numerous trips to Jocassee since then - I have a 20' cabin cruiser, so we generally camp over in the boat-in facility - much quieter, and I feel closer to the natural beauty there. Each time we cross over the lake, I think about you and your family as we pass close to old Lodge lying below the water. Jocassee always reminds me of the line from Yeat's "Easter 1916" poem: "All changed, changed utterly/ A terrible beauty is born." A breathtakingly beautiful lake, but at the cost of so many beloved homes and places! Thank you for helping us all to remember the price that was paid by people like your family to create that lovely lake!

What a lovely comment, and I so appreciate it.  That is why I do what I do - to keep the memory of that beautiful valley alive.  It touches my heart to know that it has touched yours.
